Blue's question reminded me of something I teach some guys to do.
Get a hold of a copy of the standard jury instructions for your state. After you've picked the law and think you have the whole case wrapped up, read those jury instructions for that offense. See if what you have matches what the judge will be telling the jury.
I started doing this as a detective and found it to be pretty valuable. Most sets of instructions will also tell you the valid defenses for that particular offense as well.
