I a 17 year old (18 by 9/30) high school senior. I intend to be a community LEO. Is there anything I can do to help get ready for police work which I'll be eligble for in 4.5 years. ie exercises, shooting drills, or books to read to help prepare.

Go to college. That is the best thing you can possibly do. More and more departments are requiring college credits if not degrees. You'll learn the police stuff at academy so its irrelevant to study now.
Go to college, get a degree. But you might want to think about getting a degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or some other field that can be applied to LE. If you plan on advancing up the ranks, a BA will definately get the higher-ups attention.

Agree with the college, but don't count out military. College gets more attention these days, but military is always good for discipline and responsibility. Maybe the reserves over full time so you can do both.
Don't forget to keep yourself clean over the next 4 years. It sucks having to explain things that seemed like a good idea at the time.
