I just joined up with the Greensboro PD and will start the academy on March 1st. Anyone out there been through it? If so, any advice, tips etc?

Congrats on your new job! I don't know anything about the academy you will be attending, but in general, if you have been in the military you should not have any problem.

If you haven't been in the military, just remember to keep a low profile, do what your told, and learn as much as you can. If it is a high stress academy, keep in mind that it won't last forever!

Parking downtown sucks, don't be late, the seating is alphabetical, and don't volunteer to let CPL. Naquin demonstrate defensive tactics on you. :D Hurry up an finish; we're holding calls for you.

Pay attention and don't act like a smart *****! We had a guy in my reserve academy who acted up all the time, and when it came time for volunteers for demonstration of defensive tactics, guess who got chosen all the time.

You just described my mentor! He's a chaplain for the PD I attend college in. Matter of fact, it is in North East Texas. I bet it's him.. ha! :D

I've heard great things about the GPD. I went to grad school at UNCG. You've got a some wild areas to patrol in Greensboro. Patrol districts will vary greatly.

I'm starting the academy in mid-march in Wake county.

I almost have one year on with Charlotte-Meck Police. This board has helped me out so much and continues to do so. The response times are great and you get quality answeres. If you are around Charlotte, gimme a holla....
