Well...I'm about 3/4 though my shadow phase right now and it figures that I get all the cases and calls that I have never gotten before.

Seems like it's a universal rule...you get those calls you've never done before on shadow :)

hehe thing I hate is when you get to a call and finish it and everyone wonders who is gonna take the paper. Hmm lets see who has the highest ID number. Oh wow look it is the trainee...

Oh well, life goes on right. Getting the calls you haven't done before is good during FTO/shadow phase, at least then you have a experienced officer there to offer advise and help you get through it without totally messing it up.

It does seem like that in FTO, but I've been doing this since '87, and I STILL get calls I've never handled before!

That's why it's fun! Anything less would be a day-to-day job.

Your knowledge is being checked, but also your flexibilty in these situations.

We have a joke here that if you memorize SIX sayings, they will get you out of 99% of all calls-

1-If you wish to press charges in this matter, you need to see the Magistrate...

2-That's a civil matter, and we don't handle civil matters. You'll need to contact an attorney for advice on that...

3-Let me get your information, and we'll make a report...

4-I don't know-this is a very unique situation-let me get a phone number, and I'll get back to you...

5-Shut up or you're going to jail...

6-You're under arrest...

:D See? Simple...

As everyone here will tell you, you're going to see new things throughout your career. Don't be afraid to ask for advice or help.

Just when you think you've seen/heard it all here comes Mr. dumb***** to prove you wrong.

And, never forget - if it wasn't for sex and alcohol, none of us would probably have these jobs!
