For those of you who have taken the polygraph for the Miami Dade Police, did the polygraph examiner ask you any medical-related questions, or even legal prescription drug questions? Like, are you taking any medications?

Yes, they ask you if you are taking any prescription medicine

They did?? Wow, well if you took the test before a conditional offer of employment was given to you from MDPD then be advised that the examiner violated ADA federal law....they are not allowed to ask any questions about medical conditions, including prescription medication, if the test comes before a conditional employment offer...

From the ADA website, from the section dealing with "pre-offer stage":
"Although most employers are prohibited by federal and state laws from giving polygraph examinations, some employers [e.g. law enforcement agencies] are not prohibited from giving these examinations. Under the ADA, polygraph examinations are not medical examinations. Many times, however, polygraph examinations contain disability-related questions, such as questions about what lawful medications the applicant is taking. Employers cannot ask disability-related questions as part of a pre-offer examination, even if the examination is not itself "medical".

They ask what medications you are taking before the Polygraph. This is done to determine if the medications you are taking will have an affect on the outcome of the Polygraph Exam.

I understand why they ask that, but the fact is that ADA/ EOCC law prohibits those kinds of questions, if the exam is pre-offer.

If you have a problem or issues with the way your Polygraph Exam was administered, I suggest you contact your BI or MDPD Personnel.

Of course, if I have any problems with my poly next week I'll do that, plus I will be contacting the EOCC, make no mistake about that!

I had my Poly last week and my examiner was a great guy. He asked me about prescription drugs to see if I ever abused them in any way. For example you cant be popping Xani bars and want to be a officer. My advice to you is get over it.

Questions about Abuse of drugs, prescribed or not, is one thing. But if they ask you "what prescription drugs are you taking?" that is illegal.

I disagree. If departments are breaking the law during the hiring process they need to be called on that and the practice changed.

What drugs are you taking that you're so worried about? Before you justify your OWN needs, think about who is going to have to count on you when their life depends on it. If you're taking a drug that could make you slow and sluggish or dizzy...sorry bro but I'd rather have you giving out parking tickets.
As for all of your research, try researching exactly how accurate polygraph tests are. I think you're barking up the wrong tree, although I do see your point.
Being this worried and defensive about a question, legal or not, makes it look like you're hiding something big.

Talk about barking up the wrong tree....it's not whatever legal prescription drug I may be taking, it's about the LAW, in particular the ADA. You want to be a cop and you don't mind if someone is breaking the law??? Sorry bro but I'd rather not have you as my partner or patrolling my neighborhood if that's the case...As far as polygraphs, we all know their limitations, i.e. they don't work. They are an interrogation tool, nothing more. And since when is reserving/ asserting your RIGHTS a sign of hiding something????? Your views, if you are in fact seeking a career in law enforcement, are disturbing.
