Threads have been few and far in between from you guys... I know you are all busy but keep us in the loop if at all possible. This site helps alot of people prepare. The more info. the better for the upcoming cadets. How many started Oct. 14, and how many remain. Heard RSO might be cutting back on the amount of academies they were going to run in 2009, any truth to that? I'm not bustin balls, just eager to get in the next available academy. Hang in there and kick some ***, almost 2 months down 4 to go to, and it will be well worth it. Late.

Busy is definitely the right word, along with sore. We've only completed week 3, so we have a loooong way to go. We started with 82 recruits and have lost 7 so far. We're hanging strong, but we get worked everyday.
From what I hear, our agency is not cutting the number of academies, only cutting back on the number of recruits they hire for each class. I've heard they may only place 50 or 60 max in each class.
My advice would be to get yourself in shape. Run, run, run, and do lots of pushups and leg lifts.

How long are the runs and what is about total mileage per day? Also, what have you lost the 7 to? Mostly PT? Thanks!

Generally, no one is "kicked out" during the 1st few weeks. They usually quit. They quit because of poor fitness, or lack of desire to complete the program. Most of them did not research what what was expected of them and did not realize how difficult an academy can be.

We only PT on Mon, Wed, and Fri. The runs aren't too bad. We did 5 miles last Friday. We do run everyday in boots and uniform because we "double time" everywhere we go.
One person had to drop due to an injury, the others just quit. I don't know the reason, the Sgt. didn't elaborate. Three people quit the first day, before we did any PT. One guy quit last week, and, in my opinion, he was a good recruit and was hanging just fine. Some people just realize this might not be the profession for them.

Thanks for the reply. I gotta bump up my running prep as far as distance goes. I've been so focused on my 1.5 mile time and only throwing in a 3 miler every now and then. If that 5 miles was in one run, I probably need to step it up.

I just can't imagine jumping through all those hoops in the hiring process and being lucky enough to make it through, and then quit in the first few weeks.

I know you guys run in groups by your fitness level. So what minute/mile pace does the slowest group run? Thanks. Also what would you say our fitness goals should be for running, pushups, situps for the 1st day of academy training so we don't get singled out by an instructor? Thanks.

Train as hard as you possibly can before you start the Academy. PT really took me by surprise and now I'm paying for it. I haven't had any non-participations yet, but it's pretty tough nonetheless (my legs are friggin' killing me :( ). Push yourself to the limit!
In the first week, just do everything perfectly and give it 100%. You're still gonna get singled out at least a few times. It's just the nature of the beast. Even if you're right, you're wrong. Don't be that guy/gal that screws-up constantly, because you will pay dearly.
By the way, I'm not in RSO. I'm in my 3rd week at Miramar Regional Academy for San Diego PD... but I assume it's all the same.
If I can do it, anyone can. HARDCORE!!

x2. the worst is part is those people were probably chosen over others who actually wanted the job, not the paycheck
