Requirements For Position Of Police Officer
City of Chicago Heights

1. You must be under 35 years of age

2. All candidates must be 21 years of age with a high school diploma or GED certificate

3. You must be a United States citizen

4. Apply on or before November 21, 2001; paying a $40 application fee. Applications at the City Clerk's Office, City of Chicago Heights, 1601 Chicago Road, Chicago Heights, IL 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday.

5. Attend a mandatory orientation program on Tuesday, November 27, 2001, 7 p.m. at Bloom High School Auditorium, 10th Street and Dixie Hwy., Chicago Heights.

6. Pass Written Examination on December 8, 2001 at 8:30 a.m. at Bloom High School Cafeteria, 10th Street and Dixie Hwy., North Entrance, Chicago Heights.

If you successfully pass Written Examination you will be required to:

7. Fill out a detailed Personal History Questionnaire to submit for a police background investigation.

8. Pass a polygraph test

9. Pass a oral examination given by the Fire and Police Commission.

10. Pass a medical examination by physician appointed by the City.

11. Pass the POWER Test (Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report) administered at Joliet College Total Fitness Center.

12. Pass a psychological examination by a psychologist appointed by the City.

13. Be accepted and graduate from the Police Training Academy and pass the Illinois State Police Certification Test.

14. Become a resident of Chicago Heights within 12 months of appointment.

Valid picture identification required at Step #5 and each stage following employment process. Valid Drivers License preferred.
