What is the latest information on this deputy who was killed while on-duty?

Anyone know anything? I live fairly close to the Sacramento County area, but haven' heard anything on the news lately.

A mile-long stretch of Meiss Road, east of Dillard Road in southeast Sacramento County, will be dedicated Monday to the memory of Deputy Sheriff Jeffrey Mitchell.

The 10 a.m. ceremony will take place a week before the second anniversary of Mitchell's death. The 38-year-old deputy was gunned down on that desolate country road on Oct. 27, 2006 by a killer whose identity remains a mystery.

County Sheriff John McGinness and supervisors Don Nottoli and Jimmie Yee will speak during the event on Meiss, about 1.5 miles east of Dillard.

The ceremony will include installation of two signs reading "Sacramento County Deputy Sheriff Jeffrey Mitchell Memorial Roadway," said county transportation spokesman Dan Regan.

The memorial roadway will extend a half-mile in each direction from a permanent monument to Mitchell. Enclosed on three sides by wrought-iron fencing, the lighted monument contains several American flags, a cross and a permanent brass plaque honoring the deputy.

It also holds a few other memorials, including two hand-crafted ceramic plaques. One reads "In Memory of Deputy Jeffrey Mitchell." The other, with a softball mounted on top of it, says "Happy Birthday, Daddy. 5-28-07."

Mitchell left a wife, Crystal, and a young son, Jake.

Sheriff's Sgt. Tim Curran said Friday that there have been no new developments in the search for Mitchell's killer. He said two detectives, previously assigned full time to the investigation, are working the Mitchell case as part of their normal duties.
