Yeah, I did that round up there. As I am sure you know the state is divided into counties, and the majority of the cities contract the county sheriff department for services. So you have to get hired by them 1st and then you get to bid for a city. Even though that is the case for some of the cities there, there are quite a few other city and county departments constantly hiring. If you are not familiar with that part of Washington, the cities all run into one another so pretty much from the Oregon border to the Canadian border is one big city seperated by counties. Apply to them all, one will take you.

Wow Mike! You are misinformed.
Rewbicon, You can apply for any agency you choose. Seattle is in King county. Seattle is the county seat for King County. You can apply for Seattle or King county seperately.
Seattle is surrounded by many suburban cities which are also seperate enitities but are also in King county. You can apply for any of these cities as you please. In fact all the cities/agencies you listed are in King county.
Now if you get hired by an agency you will still have to, what we call "challenge", the academy. You will go to a short two week refresher academy and then take the final exam. You pass that final exam and you will be certified by the WSCJTC. Considering you are coming in as a lateral with at least 2 years experience and a present cert from another state.
Bellevue has probabaly the best retirement package. Seattle PD has had its share of issues lately and administrative changes. A good agency to look into would be Snohomish county about 30 miles north of Seattle or Vancouver PD about 120 miles South of Seattle
I hope this answers some of your questions.

I believe I covered what you posted..only in a more condensed version...while it is true that there are many many cities, and counties that hire all by their lonesome, King County was one of the Departments I saw that was contracted by certain cities in that county for the respective law enforcement function. I am sure you work there so you would know more than me and I apologise for any confusion...
How are my people doing up there anyway...Ron Harrington - and any LVMPD/NLVPD lateral you have gotten in the past few years...let em know we miss em down here in Vegas...

Damn, sorry to double post...but your comment on the Snohomish County Department Hiring was right on...they have a ton of fed cash for laterals, and the test/hire cycle is pretty fast, I am sure even more so for an out of stater....
ok I am done!

Thanks Mike, I don't work for King County I work for Klickitat county.
You are correct King county contracts with smaler municipalities who don't have their own force. For example the city of Sea-Tac contracts with King county. Federal Way AKA Federal Watts used to contract then formed their own dept.
Pierce county does the same, for example the municipality of Lakewood contracts with Pierce county for police services.

You might want to look into the Kent PD. They are a VERY good agency, even though I am a little biased. (My dad worked there for 20 years) I think they are in the south end of the county, near Pierce county. However, my dad said they are having a hiring freeze right now. ANyone who lives in the area, feel free to correct me, as I have lived in Kentucky for the past 13 years and I am more Southern than Yankee now.
