Does anyone work for this SD? What's been happening?

I have a old high school friend working for them...haven't talked to him in a while, but what do you need to know?

Thanks for replying.

I was wondering how things were going since the department got a new sherrif? The old one was there many years and I wanted to know how everyone was adjusting and if there were really new changes.

I have a great interest in youth services and I'll be done with BLET in a few months. Harrisson campaigned on putting more personnel in this area.

Hey Little Girl (almost can't resist that name).

While Donny (Harrison) will try to expand his workforce I am sure he will have difficulty in gaining the additional funds to finance the manpower. As with many local counties the cities (I believe there are 12 in Wake Co.) continue to annex parts of the county leaving less and less for the Patrol Division of the Sheriffs department. I think that the change in Sheriff will be good for the department in general - sometimes its hard to make changes after you are in a position for an extended period (John Baker - 24 years I think).

That being said I suppose I would ask you what duties you would want to perform as a Deputy? I sincerely doubt that you will be able to secure a position performing actual patrol functions - but if serving civil process, working in the Jail, or courthouse duty is for you then chances might be good to get hired.

If you are looking for regular patrol duties then you would best look to one of the local municipalities - not only is the starting pay significantly better (especially if you are already certified) but the opportunities within the department are better (to make detective, etc.) and as I explained above I feel it will only grow increasingly difficult to attain rank in the shrinking patrol division.

If you have any specific questions regarding the local departments please feel free to ask - or if you wish a contact within any of these departments I can probably put you in touch with the appropriate individual.

Dave

I had to change my name on short notice. Somehow someone else took the origional.

At any rate, I have two interests. First, I'd like to be a school resource officer. Second, I'd like advanced training in subject control and physical fitness at the Justice Academy so I can become an instructor. I have previous experience coaching, personal training and teaching martial arts so I'm very excited about integrating my personal interests into LE. I would consider relocating anywhere east of the triangle.

I'm trying to find out about Dare, Brunswick and New Hanover counties also. My top choice is Cary, but they are very elite and people only leave for retirement or a federal job.

Thanks,
little draggon :)

I'm halfway through BLET and I want to be in a uniform in class!!!

Hey GPD, what do you think about Chief White? He's recently been hired to run the new metro agency in Louisville.

I think the requirement to lateral in is two years experience. Anything less and you go through our own academy.

Yes, I think Bronze is correct, 2 years to lateral over. However, for anyone coming in through the academy, we have a brand new police/fire training center that rocks: High quality mat room for DT, indoor range, full gym and all the extras.

I'll thnk about it. I lived in GSB before. Going through all this again is low on my list. I did my thesis on policing at UNCG,

Get a few years experience at another agency, and then lateral in. If you do choose to go through our academy, its not bad. You get full benifits from day one of class.
