First off this is my first post and wanted to say hello.

I had took my assessment for RSD Deputy Sheriff Trainee on 9/11/08 which basically consisted of some vocabulary in 10 minutes and then a basic questionnaire, like an application for costco or something. It was so easy, and I got my results the same day right after taking the test. My brother in law took the assessment for RSD at the same facility 1 week earlier and it was the P.O.S.T test. He had to wait a week to get the results. The bad part of this was that my brother in law didn't pass the assessment he took and now has to wait 6 months to take it again, meanwhile I took it a week later just after they changed it to a simple questionnaire and passed it with no effort. He is so ****ed off. We called the assessment center and they basically said they just changed it and sorry.

While this was good for me and everyone else who took it after September 1st, I just want to know if anyone can explain why they made the assessment so easy.

Thanks for any info!

A POST test? I took this test back in august and it was the same one you took. So I have no idea what you're talking about.

That's why I'm asking because some people say they just suddenly changed it and some say that they took the test I took. His test had vocabulary, fill in the blank, which statement out of two is more clear, and a written essay.

Anyways thanks for your input...

As far as I know, the current test has been in effect for some time. I can understand his frustration; however, if English was not one his strengths, he should have been aware that many tests rely heavily upon it. If he didn't do well on that test, then there is a good chance he wouldn't do well later in the hiring process and the academy.

If you check out the sample test on the POST website, then you can see there is a lot of English tied into it: clarity, reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary - synonym/antonym, essay portion, etc. I know some tests even have basic math, memory and map reading.

I'll be taking the test with Riverside tomorrow. I'm aware of the current format and I'm sure will do fine. If for some reason they decided to give me a more POST-like test, I'm sure I would do well on that one too. You need to be prepared for every step in the hiring process. Sometimes doing everything you can do to prepare isn't enough. Getting into this field is not easy and it should not be taken lightly.

I'm not trying to belittle your in-law, but if you don't prepare, you can't expect to do well in the process! He needs to learn everything he can about Law Enforcement, and do his best to prepare.

Lastly, I have no clue as to why they changed their test, but I'm sure they had their reasons behind it. Good luck to you and your brother in-law.

Thanks for the info!!

I'm right there with you on being prepared.

I know he did the pre-academy about 8 months before he took the assessment test. Would that make any difference on what test they made him take?

I guess I'm also wondering if they made the assessment easier because they are trying to hire a large amount of people right now.

Thanks TWH, And good luck to you. You will do fine!

Well, I passed today, so that's good! :)

The test wasn't too bad. I've been studying a fair amount of vocabulary lately (uncommon words) and there were some bizarre words that totally threw me off guard. Sometimes looking at prefix didn't even help.

Now it's time for Physical Agility :-)

Good job! The agility is a piece of cake!

Yeah I just did the PAT last saturday and it's a piece of cake. If you're in any kind of shape, even a slightly round shape, you should be able to pass without any problems. :D

I didn't do the assessment for them because I had taken the written POST with Garden Grove a few months back and they accepted my T-score in lieu of taking their written. (I was a non-select for GG)
