Apply for a road spot, there are some shady Deputies in the jail. I'm not saying they all are but there are more than a few bad apples. BSO loves people with experience and they will want to put you on the road.

bad apples are from both places, if ya name them you'll
see both are well represented being arrested, fired or sent to the chain gang.

anyone who works there that can give me some pros and cons? schedules, morale, etc? certified in NJ...looking to make a move to FL.

schedule : 8 hr shift 2 -15 min breaks, 1 - 30 min break, meal provided

strict senority system based on yr date of hire / date certified:
exceptions- management can admin their pet favorites into sweet jobs
that have week ends off or are highly sought after.

( this will change big MAYBE after nov 4th election )

morale: depends who the sheriff is, a lotta times the animals run the zoo

overtime: periods of time where their is a lot , get it while you can

training: other than yr basic academy, you will get 40 hours a year of
boring in-service training, sometime the stuff is good.

police class's : usually held at the community college in 40 hour blocks
and you use your own time to take them.

education incentive money: 80 hrs of police/ corrections class's will get
you $20, so it will take 320 hours of classroom time to max out if you go
this route.

a.a. / a.s. degree = $40 a month
b.a. / b.s. degree = $80 a month

in any event, the most you can receive is $120 in any combination

their is more to say, but this is just in general type stuff

yes, that is possible the sheriff's road patrol now is 1200 or more deputy's
and proabably half worked in the jail at one time.
with that being said, you have 1200 working in the jail now ahead of you,
so unless your a 10 star candidate and sharp and on the ball, you are going to have 300 that want to leave the jail for street cop positions as well.

that is the truth. The jail is bitter becuase Lamberti doesn't show off the jail to the public and in his campain and they are bitter over their contract. The Detention Deputies don't realize that the general public doesn't care about the jail as long as it keeps the inmates in. The voting public makes little to no contact with a Detention Deputy as opposed to the road Deputies who they see driving around and responding to calls. I think Lamberti is a the best guy for the job.

trust me, no one is bitter in the jail in regards- show off to the public,

we have so many scumbag people in south fla, most know what jail is

all about.

the county commission passed on a 3 % cola to both road and jail and
county workers in general, why should this be a contract issue for anyone.
anything above and beyond 3% sure, negotiate, in reality for homeland security / and progressive law enforcement, the corrections academy
should be for dept of corrections, all sheriff's should send their people
to police academy's and use in-service to supplement corrections training.

god bless all the deputy sheriff's of broward county for making it a safer
place to live.....:D

I had a question I am correction certified and have work in orange county for 2 yrs. I finish my LEO crossover in December. I have been wanting to move down South but uncertain if I should go to the jail first and get situated to the area and learn my way around or just jump in and apply to the road and take my chances getting around, and with my FTO??? any suggestions or opinions regarding the matter would be appreciated.

To anyone in the process of becoming a broward corrections officer what is your timeline like? How good are they at expediting the steps.

Thanks in advance

depends if they take short cuts, or how bad the need is.....

not sure what the manpower level is rt now, it goes 1200 sworn to 1100 sworn at times.
