I take my Oral Psych Eval today, tomorrow my Med Eval. I was just wondering if the LASD traditionally puts off an academy class until after the new year due to the holidays and stuff? I want to get in ASAP...not because I am desperate, but because I have gone this far...I just want to be in now. Anyways any info or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

There is a december class, but word is that its full already, I think after that there one until march. I wouldnt hold my breath, theres guys that have been finish with the whole hiring process and are have been waiting for months for the call. There has been a huge slow down and unless your a female you might be waiting for a while.

Thanks Cruz. That helped a lot. Seems I've been hearing that a lot...I guess LASD really needs females. Have a good one.

I hear from Lancaster that the waiting list there is not near as long as Stars and CoC. My friend Jesse is flying through the process over there. And he's a male. :)

Damn. I just passed the Psych Eval today and my Med Eval is tomorrow. I just hope I don't have to wait past the summer. Anyways It's worth the wait...what has everyone else's application process been like? Any feedback from anyone?

Feedback: be patient and stay outta trouble. The longer the wait to get called, the more chance one has to get a police contact you'd have to report to your BI (T-stop, etc). Be very by-the-book. Keep your BI updated if there are changes to your PHF.
And keep running.

also heard there might not be a dec class...may get pushed back to jan. also heard there might be a march/june class. feeling a lil better now. also heard, and i'm sure this goes around every year, that lasd is expecting a lot of retiring deputies next year. so in spite of the economy they might not slow down hiring too much.

Fatdome,
The retirements actually might happen......our current contract just expired, and all of the raises have kicked in...........and we wont be looking at anything special for the next contract with the way the economy is going.....so anyone with 25+ years on has pretty much no reason to stay......

Who generally has more academy classes each year, LASD or LAPD? Thanks

LAPD has a class every 28 days so I think they get the nod.

just curious as to what some of your guy's experience was like after completing the Med Eval? I am assuming it will be atleast 3 weeks until someone contacts me, if they do, because of the time it takes to get the **** results and to forward them to the proper people. Would anyone care to share what their wait time was after completing the hiring process to the time it took someone from Personell to call them and tell them they passed? Do they tell you your academy date right then and there? or do you wait for that to?

It could take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months, I waited six weeks from when I took the med and psych until I got the call for hire.
Apparently now, they just call and tell you your eligible for hire then you wait for an academy class or your file expires. I know stugotz has been waiting quite a while.

Just got home and opened up a letter from LASD and what do I see? My medical evaluation popped a red flag on my file. Due to back pain. Now I need to produce medical records for prior back pain issues.
I am a water delivery guy for pete's sake. we stretch and see our company massuese and chiropractor when ever we want to stay fit...along with working out. Now I have to try and find records for something i never went to a doctor for. does anyone know how long this junk usually takes to clear up?

So you were honest, it not a mistake. I put down that I had rolled my ankles multiple times during my time in the Marines. I had to go to a private podiatrist to get my ankles and feet checked out. It took a couple weeks to get everything cleared.
From the time I took my medical and psych it took me six weeks to get the call for hire. That was more than two years ago when they were hiring a lot, I dont know now.

I've never had back issues, but I made the rookie mistake of admitting to seeing a chiropractor, once. No biggie bro. No back surgeries in your records. The worst that can happen now is a month or two delay. I got delayed two months for my eyeballs (wearing glasses) and foot (prior surgery). Keep copies of everything you send to the County!

Yeh. Be patient. I cleared everything in August and still I've heard nothing.

It's been said here in the past so for you new people i will just re introduce this peace of advice... they are always looking... you are not the first nor the last to this site. this site is not private. unless you are veteran officer with plenty to express, keep your comments politically correct and very possitive. This is a greate place to get information... don't make it your coufin.

Medical Red Flag was cleared yesterday. They just wanted to make sure I hadn't had major surgeries or back problems...whew. Now I get to wait some more. It may sound weird, but this whole process has been pretty fun for me. Made me realize just what kind of person I am, although it would be nice to be hired on already...I'm not too stressed out about it anymore. Lol.

Be patient. It may take awhile. I was eligible for FT DST for about four months but didn't get called. I almost expired off the list. During that time I applied for reserve deputy and thankfully got hired. There many applicants in the queue, and fewer spots, so hiring is now very selective.
Apply elsewhere as an insurance policy!
