My son got an 85 on the INS Inspector test in September and is graduating this week from college in NC with a BA Degree in Criminal Justice. I am curious how long it usually takes before he gets an appointment for his oral exam.

JAF,

It will depend on what geographic codes he put on his applications. If he applied for some big cities, he most likely will get called earlier than most. If he only applied for small city airports, the chances of getting called are slim. Most of the smaller city airports have homesteaders who arent likely to quit or move. He can change his geographic codes in order to get hired. Currently New York and San Francisco are in desperate need of inspectors. I believe that San Francisco is even offering a $5,000 bonus if hired on here. There is also housing here that they are offering. Any more questions just PM me. I currently work for INS here in the San Francisco area.

Since your son has a degree I would have him put in for other jobs with the govt such as a special agent postion. Just about every agency is looking for agents. I personaly would not be an inspector for two reasons, 1) it is not a covered postion 2) I can't just stand in one positon in an airport and read or check paperwork. Just my opinion.
