I applied with the Mono County S.O. back in August and just received a letter scheduling me for an interview for Deputy Sheriff (Lateral). The interview is in mid November. Looking to relocate out of Southern California and into a rural part of the state. If anybody has information on the department, or county and housing prices in the area it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Property will not be cheap in Inyo or Mono County, when you consider the fact that LA City owns 98 percent of the entire Owens Valley, and there is very little property for sale. You can check for sale real estate at the following local Inyo and Mono County newspapers,

www.mammothtimes.com
www.inyoregister.com

I would not buy a home until I knew where I might be stationed with the Dept. Living in the Mammoth area and driving to Bridgeport for work is a heck of a drive expecially in winter. Many of the Mono Deps I have met live in Bishop as they can't afford Mammoth or Crowley lake, but the property in Bishop is still expensive for what you get..

Wish you the best of luck, I wish I would have gone up there 30 years ago, its God's country.
