Question: What is standard issue (Pistol) for RSO? Do you have to buy your own or is it issued? Thanks:confused:

From what I understand you buy your own, and the list of approved weapons is fairly extensive. I'll see if I can get my hands on a copy to forward along.

You buy your own handgun and holster and magazine pouch. Weapon list is long so you get to pretty much pick what you want to carry.

Any Dbl Actionn S&W or Colt 6 or 7 shot revolver, in blue or stainless, 4-6" barrel, in .38 special or .357 magnum

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the exceptions include 1911-frames from any of the manufacturers you listed. From what I've heard only the SEB guys can carry 1911's.

1911's are single action, only DA/SA or Glock "Safe Action" are permitted.

I remember paying for my own mag pouch because you you pick what weapon you carry. There are different sized mag pouches.

Ditto. We payed for everything firearm related (except ammo). The part that really sucked was that Light Bearing Holsters were not allowed in the academy. So after you spent 100 bucks (or more) for a leather basketweave holster you will never use again, you had to drop another 100 bucks (or more) to buy the holster you will actually use....

Yeah and then buy a non basket weave light bearing holster to go with your nylon gear. Very expensive that RSO

Is the duty belt basketweave, nylon, or plain leather?
SoCalSheriff

Basketweave leather for the academy and the "Class A" Uniform. Nylon is authorized for evrything else....
