Hey everyone,
I remember a while back a topic being discussed about LAPD's stance on academy reimbursement. I thought I remembered someone stating that the LAPD couldn't force a person to reimburse them if they decided to bail after being put through the academy.
I am in the beginning stages of the LAPD's hiring process, and I was given a paper to sign that explained the reimbursement of police academy training costs.
How is this possible? I am not looking to bailout after being put through the academy, I was just wondering....do other agencies have this type of ordinance? Seems kinda....peculiar....
And, if you dont pay them once you transfer within their time period, can they come after you? If so, how?
"On march 29, 1997, Los Angeles City Ordinance No. 171522 went into effect, requiring that the costs of Police Academy training be subject to reimbursement by a Police Officer, on a pro-rated basis, payable to the City of Los Angeles, if the Officer leaves the employment of the LAPD within sixty months of completing Academy training and, within one year of leaving the employ of the LAPD, accepts a position with any other law enforcement agency. The LA City Council found it necessary to institute this ordinance to address the monetary loss with the City incurs when a Police Officer leaves employment with the LAPD soon after completion of Academy training to work for another law enforcement agency."
