My dad found it for me when I was talking about the Honolulu Police department. If you just look on google and type in Honolulu Police Department it will show amazon.com and click that. they have it.

Never heard of this book, can anyone give a review of it? Sounds like something I'd like to pick up

I read it and found it very easy to read. Should take you under 2 hours to read the whole thing. It has sample questions and answers from every test you will take in the academy. It has info about different PT drills, baton drills, just about everything about the academy is in this book. EVOC, DUI/DWI, taser, OC spray, just about everything you would want to know. It also goes into detail about how to write police reports. The last part of the book talks about F.T.O. and how he feels some officers purposely get rookies to quit and issues surrounding that. I am still in college but felt that this was a very informative book. I am most likely going to apply to this department when i graduate from college if I can figure out how to survive there, its an expensive place. I would say that if you are interested in this department you should get this book, plus it wont eat a hole in wallet.

I found some website saying that the starting salary in academy pay is jumping up to 52000 in 2010 or 2011,i cant remember which year it is.

I would love to work there, i have visited many times before but visiting and living there are 2 completely different things. How is the department reacting to the cut back of special duty hours?

Just went to the HPD site and it says they're currently not accepting applications. I thought there was a big shortage of officers on Oahu? This is the first time I've seen HPD not accepting applications. I hope is only temporary.

ALoha guys,

I do believe that HPD has a freeze in hiring. I heard that in 2009 recruitment will begin again. The training academy currently has an 80 plus recruit class. There are about 50 recruits who have graduated from the Academy and are currenlty waiting for a District to be assigned to. Currenlty they are assigned to 4th watch and are walking around Waikiki (not a bad deal).

I look forward to working with you in the future.

Thanks for the info. How do you police officers deal with the crazy house prices?

Yea, born and raised my entire life.

I'd imagine they do what most middle class folks in Hawaii do, have both spouses working full-time, and find a good babysitter if you've got children.

I wish you the best of luck as well. And yea, we should definitely meet up if we both end up working at HPD..

As far as the island of Hawaii, I've only been there twice so I don't know too much about it.

a lot of Officers live in town houses (they go for about 300K) A single family house will set you back about 600 K.

finally read the book.. found it very informative and interesting but wished it could've been longer. I also noticed a few small grammer errors here and there, no biggie but glad to have read it, thanks for letting me know about it hockey19.

Anyway, just saw on the news an officer at HPD shot his gun while on duty, kind of rare in Honolulu, because someone tried to run the officer down in his vehicle. Suspect got shot once and was taken to the hospital. Thankfully no one died.
