Seeing a Sheriff car in Inglewood is nothing new since Lennox and Marina Del Rey stations are so close plus the LASD has a little office/substation in the Ladera Center.

Yet lately they've been rolling through Inglewood more than normal and I've noticed more LAPD cruisers rolling through Inglewood.

I saw a LAPD slicktop today parked on La Brea about a block away north of Centinela. Look like he was looking for Traffic violators. This isn't the first time in the past week that I've seen a LAPD cruiser deep in Inglewood.

Last week I saw a LAPD cruiser parked right on Beach.

So whats the deal?

La Brea and Centinella isn't exactley deep into Inglewood. My area goes about half a block south of 62nd St. on La Brea. It continues over westbound pretty much along 62nd St. to La Cienega and then dives down to Centinella. The Ladera Center is mostly within the county's jurisdiction except for the Friday's (although Starbucks is ours) part of Ralph's (yes part depending on which aisle your on will get you LAPD or us) and the shops along La Cienega next to the Ralph's. Those are all LA City. The school across the street and the "wood" housing development across Fairway are Inglewood.

LAPD probably had a follow up in that location ( the slick top could have been a detective unit ) or possibly a gang detail unit from 77th div. LAPD doesn't "Help out" IPD unless they are working a joint interest detail ( such as a warrant service on a mutual investigation) or are requested via mutual aid .Neither does LAPD really "poach" that far into another city ( we all poach around each others borders if the call loads are low and its a good "obs" ( observation). Ditto for LAPD.as what MDR DEP posted? LASD isn't often shackled down that way and there are part of "greater Inglewood" that actually fall under LASD jurisdiction. covered by both Lennox and Marina Del Rey substations.

Inglewood PD employs about 180 officers (+/-) and are continually hiring ! Starting pay is $55K to $68K/yr ( before longevity ,POST bonus pay,and special assignment pay) they are a proud "hold yer' own" type of dept, despite recent controversial shootings, they really take care of business and stay busy.....

The LASD cars also MIGHT be from TSB and/or one of the countywide COPS teams......they go pretty much everywhere......

I hope to the heavens above that things have improved....but....when I first made sergeant, I was sent to LAPD's worst division. I'll withhold the name, but it's south and west of downtown. That division had many employees who routinely strayed from their assigned area, often going to Hollywood, or to Pacific area, for personal business. Inglewood is very near this place.

I like the discrete SOUTH and WEST of downtown...

when I worked there nobody really left the division, just hid and slept....

Http://inglewoodpd.org/job_listings.aspYes I hear them all the time rolling code and sometimes rolling right up or down my street to their destination.

It seems like it is turning into another Wilshire, a young P-2 div. Lately, it seems like on every transfer there have been at least 10-15 new P-2s being wheeled to those two divs...

remember my divisional "ridealongs" ( used to be required when you were at LAPD academy- do they even still do that???) rode for 2 nites at 77th div, and MDR station Deps were all up and down crenshaw jacking the "local idiots",from hyde park to vernon ave. I always knew the LASD would come over from up on the hill ( windsor hills and lower ladera hts),but the P-3 I rode with groused that "all the deputies do is push the knuckleheads BACK in to our- so.west and 77th divs- area":D:D:D

Sarge- quite a few Blk officers ( and recently some white and asian officers) live or are buying in the area-north Inglewood. I also notice ALOT of that particular div pulling some "code X" details in the southbay late at night-a good 10 miles and ALOT of traffic,as well as (6) outside police agencies and (2) LAPD divisions away from their area of responsibility !!!you can ask torrance and El camio college PD how often they have "coffee chats" with these guys .......:D

It's been that way for a long time, part of the reason is none of them stay. They fulfill the wheel then take off to where they really want to go, at least at the southern div.

But if you want a P3 spot and don't want to have to go to an inside position to get it faster, go to that one place, work hard for 8-12 months and you'll get it. That division usually has 10 P3 spots open at once, 8 of 10 are going to be internal promotions, 2 will be promoted from other divisions. Out of the 8 internals at least 6 will be gang cops.

Don't know if you saw last months X-fer but 12 P3's are leaving that one div at the same time for one of the new stations. In the past 3 they xferred over 40 p2's in. That division is going to go through a big change soon. maybe for the better, maybe for the worst.

Guys, I've heard that Antonio Villa-reconquista, that preeeety leeeetle mayor, has said that the Olympic and new valley station will not open until June of next year. Is that so?

Olympic is still on course for Jan. and haven't heard otherwise.... but of course, to quote El Diablo Joe: My .02, YMMV, FWIW, Your guess is as good as mine, etc...

Thats ridiculous...Im all for giving yourself a mini-tour of neighboring divisions or cities on a slow, cold night...its actually a smart thing to do, but you should show clear and remain close just in case.

I'll never forget a Harbor cop...a UPR officer (one who gets to carry an AR-15) panicking because he drove all the way to Davis/EVOC, in Granada Hills (over 45 miles...in L.A. traffic, no less), to have his weapon inspected and the armory was closed for lunch. He had driven there, on his own, without asking/telling his supervisors. If he'd gotten a hot call, he'd have had a rather tough go at explaining his response time.

Gee, DOA just to Vernon, I've heard tale they may go as far north as MLK. Sometimes, rumor has it, they have been seen in the Jungle.

But of course we push the knuckleheads back into the area. I often refer to it as patroling the borders. Million dollar homes surrounded by such fine citizens why should we push anyone away

Does the LAPD ask about "undetected" crimes during polygraphs like some other departments? I hate writing long detailed paragraphs about stealing a candy bar from the pantry when I was like 12 years old.

You're complaining about a paragraph?

So what are you going to do when you have to write long detailed reports after your shift? Or while you're in the Academy and your DI tells you to hand write a 5-page memo on integrity?

What are you going to do when your BI or the Chief asks your to write a page on your goals and reasons for wanting to join their department?

I'll do my best to find a department that has a relaxed, stress-free, no writing involved Polygraph so your undetected crimes won't be brought up.
