Hey, I have a "friend of a friend" who is an NYC police officer. Off duty he got drunk and beat up some kid. The victim pressed charges. the officer is suspeneded until pending investigation.
He's basically screwed right? My argument was that if the charges stick he's done. I mean you can't have that on ur record when ur a police officer. What if a future suspect he arrest and the suspect states he used excessive force or police brutality they could always fall back on the previous assault charge. What do you guys think or actually know?

depends on the court case,,, but if he gets convicted, he may very well be terminated. Also depends on Felony or misdemeanor. Felony, automatic discharge, cant possess a firearm, misdemeanor, a little more vague.

It's never worth it to fight....EVER especially if your a cop. It's one case if your attacked and you need to defend yourself but even then you need to use the minimum amount of force needed to eliminate the threat. It's just stupid to be a tough guy for 5 or 10 minutes in a fight and to lose your career over it. The same goes true for a civilian. 5 or 10 minutes of glory (if you win) and you have an arrest and/or possible lawsuit on your record. Bottom line, it's just not worth it so don't do it. Be the pussy, you'll be the one who still has their gun & badge in the morning.

Is this cop a rookie cop or off probation?

Just by being drunk you can be terminated, because you must "remain fit for duty at all times except while on sick report." Even if he is acquitted of all charges, there could be a federal case against him, but unlikely. Either way, the job will put him through a departmental trial and almost certainly terminate him that way.

he's off probation. He's been a cop since 2005. My friends always told me whe you become a cop your on probation until you retire which is true lol.

you have got to be very stupid to fight, especially if ur in the force. there is always ways out of fights. walk away, even if u think that u make urself look inferior. being a cop is not just a job, its a lifestyle.
