I have been looking through posts an do not see any information on public places where people can go to practice climbing the wall.
Does anyone know of a place in Riverside or near Riverside that I could go?

Have you tested (written) with RSO or RPD? If so go out to Ben Clark and ask the staff in the personnel building (trailer) if you can practice. 90% of the time, those 2 walls sit there unused. I'm in process with RSO and have been told that as long as no one's using them, have at it...

Sounds good. Thanks for the advice.
Yes I passed the entance exam with RSO and have the PAT on 10/24/08. I can go to the on on 10/8/08 but I really want to make sure I can do everything needed to pass.
I have always been fit my whole life. I just had my youngest child 3 months ago. Even though I am back to my prior weight and feel good, I am doubting my abilites. This is the main reason I want to Practice, Practice, Practice.:D

Is staff there on the weekends? Or just weekdays?
I really want to get started:)

You mean you don't want to scale walls and go running through the back yards in your neighborhood? Good GOD, woman! Where's your dedication? :D

Ya well, I was considering it at first. Then I figured somebody might call in that a strange woman is jumping fences. That would be an interesting thing to explain to the local Sheriff department that I had applied to. :o

I started with a wooden wall at a local middle school. It was around 5'6". Only practiced after hours. Did get some crazy looks just the same!

Wow!! I went to Ben Clark on Sunday. I got everything down but the solid wall.:(:( I tried an cut my hand open on an old nail that was exposed. So I gave it a day and went to my daughters middle school. They have a wooden 6 foot wall. I was able to get over it. I really need to work on my upper body strength. I ended up having to throw my leg over the top to help me pull up and over. I thought it would be a lot easier than it was.

Female upper body strength is something that you will find OFTEN is an 'obstacle' (no pun intended) in the LE arena. Defensive Tactics (or Arrest & Control) can be problematic for females just for the same reason. Keep working at it and focus on technique. Practice jumping, throwing your leg and hooking the heel. You'll get it.

When I went through a reserve academy in 1985 I had the same problem with the wall. The chain link fence was a breeze, but the wall is different. For a smaller stature female, I found a particular technique that worked for me way back when. The key was to approach the wall full on, and with your strong leg, mount it as far up the wall as physically possible, and push up with your leg as if you're attempting to walk/run up the wall and grab the top of the wall. Then you can straighten your arms, and swinging your legs over is far easier. The momentum will allow you with your leg strength to get that extra boost to swing your legs over--and wa-la!! So the key is to use the middle of the wall as a tool to get that extra boost.
There is no way I could do it now though :D !!

It's a timed event so practice the following:
run 5 yards to the wall
scale the wall
run 25 yards
The 99 yard obstacle course and the solid wall are the two highest value events, thus if you do well on those two you can do "not as well" on the others and still pass.
I believe my times on the solid wall were in the 6.2-6.5 second range.

My skinny lil 12 year old daughter can fly over it with no problem. Im jealous!:D
I know its all about teqnique so I am going to practice daily until I have it down.
There is no certain way you have to, as long as you get over it right?
I may look silly but I dont care!!!:)

If you watch SDPD's video, there a significant portion of it dedicated to techniques getting over the wall.
Good luck.

Great info! Thanks!!!
In the video it shows the man "vaulting" the 6 foot wall. In the RSO PAT it states that we have to vault a 3' obstacle in the 99 yard course. Does that mean completely jump over it with out touching or are we allowed to touch it as we jump it?
I know a lot of questions. Sorry guys, I just want all the info I can get.:)

They usually REQUIRE you to touch it with at least one hand. It's not a hurdle; it's a vault.

Cool, thanks for the clarification. I think I am getting too nervous over this. I know there is a lot more to worry about after the PAT too.

I would be more worried about the background check and the lie test than the PAT.

I really think you should be more worried about your background check and the lie test than the PAT. You will be surprised what they will find out about you. Again, just be honest because if they catch you in one of your lies, it's over.
?? Who are you ?? I dont even know you and you are assuming that I lie? I have nothing to hide. If this was to be a generalization, maybe you should word your responses a little better.

WOW, where in my post did I ever said you lie. All I did was state what everyone knows to be true.....when they look into your background they will find things that even your parents don't know. And all you need to do is come clear BEFORE they look into your past. and NOT leave anything out. WOW...I hope I didn't touch a nerve......Do you have anything to hide????????

Even if you think you have done nothing improper in your past. Again, just be honest because if they catch you on ANYTHING, it's over. Have you ever had any civil jugements against you? What about using someone else's name and not paying the bill? Not claiming the correct income? Any reposs? Writing bad checks? What about your credit report? How about using your children's name/ SS number to open accounts? How about moving when the creditors are looking for you?The list could go on.
Calm down. She started this thread to seek info regarding the PAT. This reads as if you were caught in your BI with some of the things you've listed above.

No, you may have not said she is lieing. But you come off as accusing her of doing something wrong. You know nothing about her, so keep your generalizations to yourself.

Ok, Sparky, how about a little research before you go off half cocked? Maybe look at very recent post history? Only took 5 minutes and I found this:
I am getting worried about my grand daughter. She has applied to RCSD and will have her PT tomorrow. As the process goes on I am worried that they will find out that she has written numerous bad checks, used another person's name to get her electricity turned on (and didn't pay the bill), moves every several months to get away from creditors and she has two outstanding civil judgments and 1 outstanding small claims judgements in SD county. She does not claim all her income, so her children get free lunches and has even lied to the county regarding child support. She had a child care center in Alpine, which was forced to close because of complaints. So, she moved, opened another one which was forced to closed by Riverside County. Moved again and now is remarried. We get phone calls all the time about her non payment of accounts and even has had her car reposs several times. I am so worried about her children (she has six) and I don't want her taken to jail. How indepth is her personal life going to be investigated and do they ask these kinds of questions in the lie test? Yes, she has done all of this and MORE but has never been caught. This might be it for her if she is found out about.
Not too sure BUT my granddaughter (MAMA_MX) was trying to get into the RS SD I don't think she ever filled out the BI papers. Do know she passed her PAT. Maybe someone else knows if she has. Good luck. I know the RSSO could use a few great people
I would say it appears VBPDWIFE knows a lot more than you think.

A big thing a lot of people do not consider when going over walls is core strength. You need your stomach and hip muscles to help get you over the wall unless you have a lot of upper body power. Work on flutter kicks and crunches as well as upper body. Go to a school play ground and do pull ups. If you cannot do any, grab the bar and jump up to where your chin is above the bar and then try to slowly lower your self back down. Also grab the pull up bar and hang, while hanging, lift your knees up to your stomach and repeat. Do these exercises with the ab exercises and you will be over the wall in a few weeks. This really works. Good luck

For me, the wall is mostly a momentum thing. Just remember to go with the momentum and try not to stop during the climb or else you will end up using too much upper body strength...Get a good foot plant a little less than half way, puts your hands on the top of the wall, push up and throw that first leg over. Trust me, if you work with your momentum than you wont exert as much energy trying to push yourself up and over. Take a few rounds to practice and try to let it "flow". Like many things in life, we let obstacles become a mental issue and all of the sudden even the smallest thing looks gigantic. Take a few practice rounds to really try and find a rhythm and see if it helps....dont think about it, just do it.

So a granddaughter and grandmother are having it out on O.com rather than with each other? O.com drama. :)
For the most part, agencies will not allow such reckless people to join. There is too much liability out there, and your granddaughter wreaks of it (assuming that what you stated is factual). If by some instance all of those circumstances are true and she is offered a job with RSO, I will lose my mind.

Yup I landed akwardly and broke some of the middle toes on my left foot...
The dummy drag and sprint sucked for me but I still passed... This was like 3 weeks after I had surgery to re attach my bicep and tendon to the bone on my left arm...
I wanna take another shot at the course to see how I do now
