Also posting this in the California section.

Just curious how some of the other larger departments handle their overtime for Officers.

If a current Officer could respond, preferablly PM for obvious reasons, I'd be curious as to how other departments handle assigning their overtime.

More or less, also looking for a way that works, for a larger organization, that I might be able to offer as a suggestion to others.

Our system works, and it is what it is, but there has to be a better way....
Needless to say, its a little bit difficult at times to sign up.

Any private messages are appreciated,
Thanks...

We have so much OT that it is sometimes hard to fill and our folks tend to get burned out.

Everyone who wants to be considered for general OT details and assignments signs up on a list. As the assignments come in. you go down the list in order, offering it to each person. They either accept, refuse, or if they are not home, a voice mail message is left and they have a certain amount of time in which to call back. If they don't call in time, it is considered a refusal. As new assignments come in, you start back on the list wherever you stopped the last time. You just repeat this, cycling through the list over and over.

To avoid charges of supervisory or management favoritism, overtime assignments are handled by the union steward.

Specialized OT assignments that require unique and specialized skills are still at the discretion of management. However, these assignments are few and far between and are limited to those persons that legitimately possess those skills.
