Hey guys, who recruits from their academy? Do most people from Rio Hondo get hired?

Something to consider for all those thinking about going with a smaller agency......
Some (not all) have the reputation of 86ing folks right before their probation is over because they dont 'fit the mold' for that particular agency......

Torrance is hardly a small agency. Keep in mind that LAPD and LASD are each bigger than every other city in LA county combined, yet they are 2 out of what, 60 or more? Torrance is at the bigger end of things for a city other than LA within LA county, and I doubt they recruit from Rio Hondo, there are closer academies to them.
Agencies other than the big two are in the worst position to cut people right before probation if you ask me, and that's where I've worked for 20+ years. Big agencies can cut far easier; they hire in massive numbers compared to the cities. At the city level, one cut officer can have a real impact, and you're talking 6 months to a year before that impact is righted.
I work at a city that recruits from RH, I'm surrounded by cities that are the same way, and I know of none that have the rep accused here. Far better for us to cut losses early and move on; the down time of having vacancies affects us far more than the big 2.

I know 3 RIO grads, 1 works at UPS never got any offers, 1 graduated with no job but was processing with LAPD at the time of the academy and when he graduated RIO, 2 weeks later he went to LAPD academy, the 3rd I know and he doesnt want to me to say where , but it took him a few months to get on a small not so high payin P.D. but at least he got a job!! Many of his classmates still have not found work.
What alot of them don't tell you is that, even though they fit the min. conditions/requirements for entrance in to a pre service academy, alot of them DON;T actually qualify to pass the entry process for a PD( bad credit, psychs, can't pass a polygraph/CVSA, questionable work histories, immaturity, etc) alot of pre service guys ,who actually turn their noses up at a job offer from my dept -LAXPD,when we used to use rio hondo, would come months later with "Hat in hand" begging for the application when their first choices, like certain LOWER paying depts in So.Cal wouldn't pick them up

Can't speak for other agencies regarding this, but Torrance PD is notorious for kicking people to the curb in this particular fashion.
In the fairly short time that I've been testing I've interfaced with more than a few former Torrance recruits who attended LASD academy and then suddenly found themselves jobless. The three individuals who I'm still in touch with have gotten picked up by other agencies and are doing very well.

Why does Torrance do that? Isn't it an obscene amount of money/time/effort on a candidate to lose?

Which academies are closer to Torrance that they could recruit from? Fullerton and GW are just as far. I can't think of any others.

Because they want a specific 'type' of officer working there......if you dont fit their 'mold', you are tossed......Irvine has the same rep.....

Torrance likes to hire LASO recruits, or put them through LASO, generally, they used to at least.

Is that list supposed to answer my question or was that for someone else? If it was for mine it has nothing to do with your statement. None of those Cities have an academy. If it's a list of where they hire laterals from I guarantee a lot of them went to rio hondo.

Torrance (and several of the agencies listed above) also uses our academy, when they have enough room in the class......

Yeah, I know. Mine does too. I was just trying to get the poster to qualify his statement. I don't think it can be qualified as there are not any acadamies closer that allow recruiting. Meaning: You aren't going to the LBPD, LASD, LAPD academy to recruit. Those guys all have jobs and the staff isn't going to let you in.
