closed kwanzaa joke thread

Just thought I would help clarify...KWANZAA is not a religion or a religious celebration. As many jokes as there has been bashing anything else on here, why does this one need to be locked? I thought I was on one of the last boards that was a non-political correctness holdout. Oh well, such is life. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

I figure since I'm the one that closed it, I'd better give a reason. First of all, let me apologize for not giving an explanation at the time I did it. Time is short these days and I've got barely enough time to do my real work and other responsibilities, but I try to spend some time throughout the day to poke around in here. That said, I don't make it a habit to simply close a thread and not leave an explanation.

Now, the reason I did it...

It had nothing to do with religion, but rather race. The entire joke ran the parallel between Kwanzaa and the ghetto. I think we all can see that this a journey left untaken.

Now, if the poster wishes to e-mail it to another mod and let him/her decide, that's fine. In fact, that may not be a bad idea so that I can see if it may have been the mood I was in at the time or if it really did go over the boundaries of good taste. Either way, I did it and that's why I did it.

So, before anyone goes and tries to say that o.com is actively practicing censorship, realize that I...and I alone...acted on it. It wasn't an o.com decision, but rather a Lawdog decision based on the aparent undertones of the joke.

I can't answer about last year. I can only answer for this year. As far as race, OK, let me rephrase that...class...such as ghetto. I think we can all agree that Kwanzaa doesn't equal stolen stereos and F*** the Police. Can't we?

Mike, you have been here long enough that I really shouldn't need to say this to you, but for everyone's benefit, here it is again:

Officer.com is a private forum. The Terms of Service to which you all agreed state "Although this BB does not and cannot review the messages posted and is not responsible for the content of any of these messages, we at this BB reserve the right to delete or edit any message or membership for any or no reason whatsoever."

If a post crossed the line in a Staff member's opinion, then it crossed the line. Period. You or anyone else has a problem with that, just let us know, and we will gladly terminate your membership, since you are unable to abide by the TOS.

If in the future Mike, you feel that someone's Christian jokes are in poor taste, then feel free to let us know, and we will look at it as well.

LawDog is kind to offer, but there will be no further discussion of the merits of the thread in question, nor will it be reinstated.

If you don't have the backbone to answer, at least say so. If you're to politically correct to discuss it, then just close the topic like you usually do.
