NEW YORK - A New York Police Department official says a lieutenant is dead of an apparent suicide, days after he ordered another officer to fire a stun gun at a naked, distraught man who then fell to his death.
The police official says the lieutenant was found at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn early Thursday, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. It wasn't clear when he died.
The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the family had not yet been notified.

The lieutenant had ordered another officer to shock Inman Morales, who fell nearly 10 feet to his death in Brooklyn.
The lieutenant was stripped of his gun and badge after the incident last week, and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly ordered refresher training on how to deal with emotionally disturbed people.

RIP Lou.
Suicide is a major problem in law enforcement. To get punished when your heart is in the right place, and you make a split second decision just takes its toll on alot of good officers.

Yes he did, they live out here on the Island ( the poor guy couldnt even water his lawn without a camera in his face.) may he rest in peace , my only question in all this ,is does his family still receive his pension ?

Rest in peace. Unfortunately, the people most in need of mental health help are the ones that ask for and get the least while we waste mental health resources on scumbags and attention whores that just want a taxi ride to the hospital every other week.

From what I've seen, NYPD command was ready to feed him to the wolves. Another case of too much politics, too much civilian involvement in police work. And now a brother officer is dead.

He might...back in the 90's when Capt. Terry Tunnock (XO of Central Park and a true gentleman) committed suicide because of rumors he was going to be thrown under the bus from the Dirty 30 scandal, it was apparently so his family would get his pension.
I've been gone from NYPD 10 years, but I remember something about once you hit 20 years, if you die (by any means) the Dept. processed your retirement for the day before...something like that. I may be completely wrong though, or things might have changed.

very very sad. I cannot believe that cops are still "pushed" to commit suicide by the media/establishment.
My thoughts to the family.
Nobody is talking anymore about the PO who actually shoot the EDP. anybody has some news about him/what is going to happen to him?

RIP Lt.
He didn't have to kill himself, It was stupid that he ordered that officer to tase the perp, but it was only one human being and an EDP at that. Sorry if i sound 'distant'. Just the way I am, rather have a perp dead than a cop

Absolutely tragic, Maybe we should write thank you letters to the daily news ny post and all the news stations who focused on exposing one of new york's finest to fill news air time.. It's a sad day for those with any interest/ties to law enforcement community.

Sad. I wish he'd gone to the Chaplain, and maybe sent something to the man's funeral to express his sorrow about the matter. How terrible that he was so overwhelmed, and apparently chose to end his own life, depriving himself, his family and loved ones, and the rest of us, of a life he'd worked so hard to live well.
For him and for that man over whose death he showed such fateful remorse: may Almighty God rest and keep them, and our Lord Jesus grant them forgiveness, perfection, and everlasting reward, and may they dwell in the House of God forever, Amen.
If anyone gets overwhelmed, please go talk to someone. It's shoulder to shoulder, brothers and sisters. You don't always have to go it alone.

I heard a suicide note was found, any confirmation?

From what I understand the note stated that he was being, in some way, antagonized by his superiors and ultimately he did not want his kids and wife to see him in cuffs. This mans blood is on the departments and medias hands. Its a real shame and I wish his family strength during this sad time. Rest in Peace Lt., you are a hero.

I blame the NYPD for releasing both officers names to the media where in effect they stalked and harassed this Lt.
This city and this police department should be ashamed of themselves and I hope the Lt's family sue the crap out of them.
RIP Lou

I agree with some previous posters that the media and the department drove him to death. Hope they are proud of themselves.
RIP LT Prayers to the family.
