I just spent 6 hours driving a burg suspect around the county locating all his victims. He had an MO I thought was interesting enough to share.

He hit locations with alarms without fear. he would ride his bicycle around town, do his burgs as a quick smash and grab, taking only something small, like a computer monitor, or a laptop, then he would place the stolen prop in the bushes nearby and head off on his rounds. sometimes he would go to a nearby 7-11 and watch the cop show. at the end of the night he would call a tweaker buddy who had a car, pay him 5 bucks to drive him around and he would go collect his stash of stuff.

We knew this guy and knew he was a POS but we had nothing but problems surveilling him. A guy on a bike at 0200 hours is hard as heck to tail. On one occasion our surveillance team was even watching him as he did a burg, but they had to be way far off, because he would double back routinely, and they could not see the burg go down. When he rode away with nothing, they figured he was just casing.

This guy always looked for unlocked doors and windows first and always re-secured them knowing no report would be taken.

he copped out to about 20 burgs today, tomorrow we go at him again and we hope to get at least another 30.

He learned this technique in prison so the crooks know all about it, we need to know too.

Here's the advice I would offer patrol. If you respond to an alarm check the bushes, on adjacent props. If you find stuff you might want to watch it that area to see if someone returns for it.

If you found this thread helpful post a quick reply so it stays around for a bit so that others can be aware it's out here. I hate refreshing my own posts it seems so egotistical.

Thats awesome!! My only question is, why were the 459s unreported?

It's always good to learn tricks of the trade, no matter how long we've been around.

They were all reported. Not sure what I said that led you to beleive they werent, but sorry for the confusion.

Imachu, we think he is good for over 100, he has copped to about 35 so far. Two days now we have been carting him around, his attorney calling every cop line he can think of trying to invoke on his clients behalf. "Tell him I said not to talk." Yeah sure we will.

Right, gotcha thanks. Your right, I should have explained that clearer.

I meant that he thought the cops would not realize a burg happened and would not take a report right away. Sometimes guys cleared with an alarm card and the vic would call us back out when they came in the morning and discovered their loss. But they were all reported eventually.

Ref burg type these are all commercial burgs. Churches, schools and dentists offices.
