How many times are you going to ask lol. Stop smoking pot. wait 6 months and re open your case. And dont go shaving all your hair off cause they will then take toe and fingernail clippings.

They did the same thing to me back when i went through the process...LOL....i ended having to buzz off all my leg hairs to make it look even....Wasn't too crazy about even doing that but it looked much better than having two long strips of hair missing from my leg...I'm actually going through the process now because I deferred the last time...Have to do it all over again...thank goodness it is fall time...LOL

I "think" the hair sample test can go back more than 6 months if they use body hair.

Good luck...FYI once you pass the test they will check again once on the job if you have a history.

You also have to factor in the amount of drugs being consumed and whether or not the person is a chronic user [chronic meaning frequent, not the "other" chronic] LOL.

People who are chronic users can have the thc detected in their system longer than someone who tried it once or twice.

Thanks for every ones input....Yeah I'm reopening my case from exam 5047 for the july 2009 academy at the time of test I had smoked about 4-5 times, so now I waited about 3.5 years...and according to my docter and you guys I know I'll be ready for 2009

Im sorry for posting a question ill probably get blasted for, but back in the end of July, I took a few hits off a joint. This was my first time smoking in 5-6 years, and even back in high school (im 24 now) I did it a few times. I have my medical this friday (dec 5th).
Some one please tell me if I should postpone my medical or if I will be ok.

trust me, i've been regretting it since that day. I was so upset i stayed straight for 5 years and then had 1 bad judgment within close proximity to the academy.
I was really wondering how failing the drug test works. Do they just fail you on the spot if they pick up any traces, or do they review it, determine how much you use, the frequency of use and then ask questions about it? I'm just worried ill fail on the spot if they pick it up.

Save us some angst and you some time and go have your hair tested at YOUR EXPENSE.
That way whatever drugs that you took whenever will or won't show up.
If they show up, go away.
If they don't show up, go away still.

If you want to be a COP....(FORGET ABOUT DRUGS> JUST SAY NO).....
its easy to say...Oh I just took a few hits back in july but who's to say when your on the job you won't slip up.Then your whole career is in the toilet. I'm sure a lot of people on here have taken a few hits at some point in their lives but everyone has to follow the rules.As hard as it is to get on a job these dayz ......MAN.If they told me that I wasn't allowed to drink alcohol to become a cop,I would never touch the stuff.GOOD LUCK! AND THEN START ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT THE SAME DRUG ISSUES YOU HAVE.

It isn't a "lapse of judgement" when you do something that YOU KNOW is not only against the law but WILL DENY you admission to a job that you supposedly want to obtain.
It's a TOTAL LACK OF CHARACTER AND MORAL COMPASS.

Judgements are what Police Officer do every minute of their day on and off duty. The training to become a Police Officer/Trooper is all about constantly teaching you what the proper judgements are and how to CONTINUALLY make correct judgements. Sometimes those judgements MUST be done in one split second, done correctly, and done to stand up to minute examination for years afterwards.
"Small" lapses don't cut it this field.

How about you man up, grow up and decide if you want to be a cop or not? Postpone? How about you just plan cancel altogether. If your 24 and still taking a few hits when you know what is at stake you probably don't need to be applying to begin with. You really think guys on this forum, who may have to have you as back up if you make it through are going to give you advice on if you have waited long enough since you got high last to continue to process?
Although I'm NYSP and not NYPD I think very highly of their reputation and applicants like you do nothing but tarnish it.
THANK YOU, Law Enforcement is a unique career choice and requires heart, integrity and good judgement. Maybe if you had your heart set on being an accountant a few hits from a joint last summer would be "no big deal" but when society gives us the power to take peoples freedom away we HAVE to be held to a higher standard. If you are serious about getting hired put some time between your past indescretions and show that you have made a positive change in your life. If you want to lie go right ahead. You may slip through the cracks but of they ever find out you will be fired on the spot be it 6 months after getting hired or ten years on the job either way you will have absolutley no chance of ever working in le ever again.
