Mpdc Or Nypd....revisited!
Hey Guys,
From the two threads that dealt with this issue, the NYPD was still paying there guys 25K starting with a top off at 60K. That has changed in the last few months. Starting now is 40K with a top off at 76K after 5.5 years. Add all extra pay, a NYC cop earns 90K before OT!
Now MPDC is starting there folks off at 48K. After 18 months it gets bumped to 53K. According to this link I received from the DC FOP, pay after 5 years is 61K. MPDC is also trying to renegotiate there contract with DC, but it looks like the DC government is playing hard ball. (Sounds familiar NYPD?)
Have posted the links for reference to what I stated below, would love to get some feedback.

I was One of the People that Started the Threads not to Long ago askin the same question. And My personal Answer is In in the Academy On 20th street now and have no regrets.
The New Contract Just solidified my decison.
But I was Ready to Go For MPD's academy on July 30, But I got the Call from the NYPD on the the 2nd.
I made have family in maryland and spent alot of time in the Dc area in the late spring early summer and I just wasn't to fond of Dc. I'm a New York Guy to the core, also Being a Cop In someone elses city was also a factor.
But that not to say that I wouldn't have been gone if the calls were reversed.
Alos Now the money isn't so Far apart With the starting salary here at 41 and there 48. And when you factor in The cost of Moving, and the 8-10 month academy. It just wasn't the rite choice for me. But it might be for you. especially with the Econemy and the Flood of applicants to the NYPD. it's getting a little harder to Join
How Far have you gotten along with you processing with MPD/NYPD

Smitty - Yep you were the second person to start a thread on this question. It was informative and thanks for posting it. I listed the thread since folks could have an idea of what the thoughts were previous to this new NYC salary increase.
So after three months, how do you like being a NYPD recruit so far? Have they been killing you guys in the gym and in class?
To add to your point of it getting harder to join NYPD.When I went for my oral psych retention had a line out of the building of applicants trying to open their case.
I actually have completed both processes. I listed the dates below. I'm going to PM you mt situation.
Good luck with everything and thanks for the feedback.

Yea they Definetly Put Us to work In The Gym but it's well worth it. And I love every min of NOt a single regret.
But dependig on how quiclky you want to start you career and how fast you can finish your BI and med situation. They start a Class every month or 2. Which is close to Jan. Which puts you in the same place I was when I had to Decide.

NYPD salary increase
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey guys,
I am a originally from Chicago but work as a narcotics officer in Colorado. I am looking to relocate to New York City, however, I am not sure if the current salary increases for the NYPD make NY city affordable for a police officer. Any information is appreciated.
Thanks
