Ok, ive been thinking about reopening my file with NYPD. I was planning on giving them a call sometime around Jan/February. Long story short, what factors might prevent me from making it into the July 09 class assuming I pass all of the BI, physical, medical etc and make me wait until January 2010? I took the test in February 2006, so I assume my score will expire around Febryary/march of 2010. So the January 2010 class would be the last one I could make before needed to take the test again.

as sooon as the jan academy starts go that day and reopen your case. waiting till feb will only hurt your chances. if you pass everything with a 2006 test date you should def have a spot in the july 09 class.

It is unlikely that there will be a huge further increase in Academy pay when the current contract being ratified now is approved thru 2010 and a new contract after that is negotiated.

So waiting is unlikely to be a financially wise decision, unless your current job is paying you more than NYPD would pay in 2010.

Based on the rumors of a large number of prior applicants already re-opening their cases and the new applicants now testing it could make more sense to start you renewal NOW with APD rather than waiting till Jan/Feb 09.

That should expose you to a chance with BOTH the Jan/09 or Jul/09 classes as long as they actually happen as scheduled.

^ This. It really would only be beneficial to reopen your as early as possible. The longer you wait to reopen your case, the more people will be reopen their cases before you.

I understand theres a 60 credit requirement. Do you need to have a degree or just 60 credits? I have about 50+, but not working toward a degree.

How about if you dont have the full sixty credits can you still open
your file?

Where is APD located?

I believe I can still apply without it... Just have to have 60 by the Academy, I think.

There are a few reasons I am waiting to reopen. 1) My current job pays more than NYPD, even with the new raise. 2) I am supposed to take the fundamentals of engineering test in april. If I happen to get in the Jan 09 class, that wont happen. 3) im not 1000% sure im ready for NYPD. im like 90%. My plan was to get into July 09 at least so I will still be able to take the FE test. if I pass, i have that for the rest of my life and should be able to get back into engineering once I retire.

i think you need 45 credits to start the process and 60 by the academy, me i got 127 or a B.A. from John Jay College

You can reopen and still work at your current job. If you happen to get into the Jan 09 class, I'm pretty sure you can hold off and go into the July 09 class.

Really? How would I go about doing that? Would I have to redo any of the tests if I postponed until july 09?
