I have taken the NYPD test and passed and am really excited to get on, but am going to finish my bachelor's degree before I go any further in the hiring process (I only have about another year and a half).
I live in CT right now so my first question is, at what point in the hiring process do I actually have to become a NY state resident and get a NY drivers license and establish residency?
Another question is, I have heard that at the beginning of the academy, you have to pay a large amount of money for uniforms, is that true?
Last question, after graduating from the academy, what is the best precinct in the city to work in? ( I know that most officers have to do IMPACT before they can go to a regular patrol squad but I am just wondering for after I do IMPACT).
Thanks!

the BI, Or background investigator will tell you when you have to establish residence, usually right before you go into the academy,

second, yes you do have to fork over money for the uniforms and such, ive heard it's around 2,000 to 3,000 depending on quality of uniforms and amount of them.

third, yup youll first probablly get sent to the pit of hell neighborhoods, after that who knows, it's like russian roulette. But the best ones are in manhattan, some in brooklyn and some in queens. Depends on what you want, a boring day, people shooting at you or if you want to write tickets all dayhttp://farm1.static.flickr.com/141/339326584_c669e67728.jpg?v=0http://hoboken411.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/hoboken-police-car-booted.jpg
