The American military went to the Beretta, so it has to be a reasonably good gun. When I used to qualify with the Beretta (as an MP), it never jammed and was much more accurate than our old 1911 .45s.

I have no prob with the Beretta. In fact, it has some features that I really like. real esy to do a press check with it's slide shape...I really like the loaded chamber indicator feature...nice balance to it. The current production models are very reliable. Easy to disassemble and clean. Accurate...capable of very rapid, accurate fire.
Uses metal mags, which I like...overall a nice pistol.
One drawback as compared to other pistols is that it is heavy to carry and pretty large. Much bigger and heavier than a GLOCK 19.
And I don't particularly care for a DA/SA trigger.
Anyway...just my two cents...hope it helps.

Glad this model got brought up... as I am researching what to get in 9mm or .40 and this is one of the few on my list... I am pleased to see these replies. Does anyone happen to know if the Safariland 090 holster is Beretta 92 compatible?

I just recently bought the Special Edition M9. I think its the greatest thing I've ever used in a 9MM caliber. It's overall accuracy is better than the comparable Glocks. It also has an extremely reliable safety mechanism. It's has a lower rate of accidental discharges than Glocks. The factory sights don't have some of the problems that are common with the "Combat-Tupperware". In my humble opinion the Beretta actually feels like a gun. I know that the feel of the gun doesn't mean much to some, but to me the 92FS feels like a part of my body.
I know I went out on a tangent but my point is that you will enjoy your new guns and they will perform well.

The 92F is a good duty pistol I think. Its the standard issue for my department, and even though other brands and the .45ACP is an approved round, a majority of our personnel carry the 92F on and off duty. It is accurate and very reliable. The two or three malfunctions I have had have been due to bad magazines. It is very accurate if you do your part. Simple to maintain and operate. Controls are very well placed.
That said, the double action trigger could be better I think. It is also a big gun. If you plan to carry it concealed you gotta adjust your wardrobe around it.
Overall it is a great gun. I plan on sticking to mine for a while.

Speaking of Berettas, I LOVE the Elite II. Sharp looking pistol, accurate as can be, and the Novak Sights are wonderful. I also think the DA trigger pull is signifigantly better on the Elite than it is with the regular 92, as that one seems quite strong to me. It's a bit more money, but I think if you shoot them both you will agree that the Elite II is well worth it.
