My department has some in our armories at our custody facilities. Ive never used them, but Ive seen videos where they worked fairly well in delivering a good amount of OC into a particular area where a bad guy was. A video I saw showed a deputy from another agency pop an inmate several times before a jail entry team went in to extract him. That guy didnt fight too well after being nailed with the OC.

One word of caution. From what I heard the pepperball guns that we have are just like what you could rent at a paintball field. They are no different, so a commercial paintball gun could handle the pepperballs. At least, thats what I was told.

We use the pepperball guns in custody facilities only. Patrol does not use them.

Anyone use the fairly new pepperball gun? We have it but it hasn't been used yet. Any comments out from someone who has used it. It appears to be very effective. :D

As an evaluator of equipment let me give you my take.
The pepperball gun was designed to do two things, deliver OC and provide an impact round like a bean bag round.
The pepperball gun is a compromise and does neither job as well as dedicated systems.

If you want impact munitions get a dedicated 12 gauge/37/38/39/40mm system /ARWEN and shoot the most accurate bean bag or gel baton round you can find.
If you wnat to deliver chemical agents buy a good quality OC in the size and delivery system you need.

The pepperball gun is not as accurate as dedicated impact munitions systems and it delivers OC in a manner that is less effective than aerosol delivery systems.
Since I do not have a limitless budget I placed it in the category of "kinda neat but not something I need".

We did purchase Quite a few M26 air tasers because it does what it does better than anything I have seen.
I am an instructor for pepperball systems and M26 air taser. Our jail has both and they actually use the M26 the pepperball gun sits on a shelf and is only used during demonstrations.

If you have money you must spend on something and you have everything else you need then go ahead an buy it.

We have two pepperball guns, one for patrol and one for the jail. We have used the patrol gun once that I know of, and the jail gun has been used several times. All usages have been very successful. The pepperballs are pretty expensive, but the company will replace them for free if they are used in an actual situation. Part of our training was that we shot each other with the guns. They are very effective. After getting hit a few times with these things it takes the fight right out of you, then you have to breath the OC powder that has been released.

FN Herstal (www.fnmfg.com) recently introduced an impact munitions weapon system, the XM303. While I've seen a prototype of the weapon, I've never seen it in operation.

If anyone is unfamiliar with the Jaycor system, you can access them at www.pepperball.com. (http://www.pepperball.com.)

Be safe and keep the wind at your back.

I agree with swatbwana with the ARWEN and M26 tasers. My agency has used both with good results. I think the pepperball guns are fairly new to our department. I know the tasers work pretty well, Ive been shocked with one!
